Commando Cody and the Lost Planet Rocketmen
The utterly fabulous Dial B For Blog presents the serialized adventures of Rocketman (AKA Commando Cody) and his Atomic-powered Rocket Suit! Read capsulized reviews of the old Republic movie serials and download Quicktime clips from old episodes! Sockamagee!!! Be sure to keep an eye out for Leonard Nimoy's appearance as an evil Martian.
I devoured the Rocketman serials on teevee as a kid, but I had real problems with the physics of his atomic rocket suit. I mean, how did he keep the hot nuclear exhaust from scorching his ass and rendering him completely sterile? HOW?!!! Those clunky stuntman-in-tin-can robots made my suspension of disbelief nigh impossible as well.
Yes, I definitely think too much.
Years later, when Dave Stevens' Rocketeer came out, I was bowled over by the amazing artwork, clever storyline, and fell in cartoon lust with Dave's Bettie Page doppelganger. My hardcover copy of The Rocketeer (in German, no less) is one of my prized possessions.
When the Rocketeer movie came out, I was pleased, but not completely bowled over by it. As much as I dig Jennifer Connelly, I hated the way that Disney de-sexified the character for family audiences.
