When Fembots Attack!

Feast your eyes on these gorgeous scans from the 1969 Speigel Catalog. I'm pretty sure that I skipped right over these when I was a kid and headed straight for the ladies' undergarment section. There's lots of other great eye and ear candy to gorge yourself on at The Swank Pad, so stop by and say "Aloha".

Speaking of gorging, last night I headed over to the Trader Vic's at the Atlanta Hilton and treated myself to a couple of their potent Happy Hour libations, followed by a superb meal. I started off with a Zombie and a giant eggroll...the drink was tasty and potent, but with a tad too much grenadine. The eggroll was a revelation. It's not often that you get surprised by something that familiar, but Vic's really put a nice twist on it.

When dinnertime rolled around, I was seated next to the big window that overlooks the Chinese ovens. I ordered a Navy Grog and a Hearts of Palm salad for starters, and a smoked Hawaiian pork chop with Maui onions and mashed potatos for the entree. The Grog was absolutely superb, the sharp taste of the Pusser's Rum along with just a hint of pimiento really hit the spot. The swizzle stick covered in rock sugar was a nice touch as well. The palm hearts were fresh, not canned, and very crunchy. When the pork chop arrived, I dug in with gusto; it had been smoked in the Chinese oven until the meat was falling off the bone. The onions were sweet and mild. The mashed 'taters were a bit bland, but seemed to work in the context of the meal as a sort of palate cleanser.

After dinner, I found a nice museum shop that specializes in architectural books and picked up a guide to the furniture of Frank Lloyd Wright. I love his Mission and Prairie collections.

I fly back home tomorrow, then I start my two-week vacation. I'm looking forward to some travel that doesn't involve work and does involve my family.
