Rodney on the WOQ/Barris Put In His Place

Thanks, and a tip o' the tall white Goof hat to Bedazzled! for pointing me to Mark London's HEAVYPAPERZ weblog, where Mark reports that the so-called "Mayor of Sunset Strip," Rodney Bingenheimer, was awarded his very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last week. I wonder what Rod's rival claimant to the Strip's mayoral office, Kim Fowley, thinks of that?

This week, it's Kustom Kar King, George Barris, creator of the Batmobile, Munster Coach, and the ZZR Surfmobile shown above, who's being honored by having a Los Angeles street named after him.

The Original Modern Lovers

Glyph Jockey posted this 8-song demo LP by Jonathan Richmond and the Modern Lovers (produced by the biggest douchebag in the record biz, Kim Fowley), with 2 different takes of their classic, Roadrunner, and 3 raw, hard-driving tunes, Walk Up the Street, She Cracked, and I Wanna Sleep In Your Arms. Excellent stuff. I much prefer it to the soporific crap Richmond starting putting out when he began to fancy himself as a romantic crooner, although you can hear the beginnings of that phase on this LP as well.
