Here's a doodle I made in high school of X-8, Johnny Heck, and me, shortly after our return from riding dune buggies in the desert outside of Los Angeles. I was clearly in an altered state of mind, and heavily influenced by Gilbert Shelton's Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers. We called ourselves the L.O.A (Loados of America).

As Johnny used to say, "Let's smoke some weeeeeeed!"

While rooting around in the cellar, I came across this fine sketch by Laurence J. Doering, a name my readers from the talk.bizarre community will no doubt recognize. The man was a paragon of punkitude (and German grammar).

Larry, wherever you are, this is for you, "Au, au, au!" schreit Maria, "Steck du deinem Faust in meinem Teeny Fotze!"

In the Subdominion of Narthex

M.Ace and Dean Sabatino have thoughtfully concentrated all their erstwhile Narthexualism into a single, blazing white-hot subdomain of post-punk goodness. Now you can easily browse through their fascinating collection of photographs, memoirs, and most importantly, free downloads of their tunage: big fat slabs of slashing power chords and chunky arpeggios, backed by Dean's intricate drumming, and topped off with M.Ace's hoarse, but not unpleasant vocalizations. Check out My Girlfriend Hates Me and Crazy Rhythms, for a representative sample.

This is the good stuff that came out of punk; the thousands of little bands that climbed out of their basements, threw out the stale trappings of arena rock, bypassed the shady business practices of recording companies, and instead, decided to do it themselves.
