The Pickled Squirrel Gizzards Are Behind the Bar

taxidermy.jpg

This gallery of photos from the Moccasin Bar in Hayward, Wisconsin (just a skip and a holler down the road from me), demonstrate that, unlike bad album covers, there's no such thing as too many scenes of anthropomorphic taxidermy.

Take for example this fine group of Bavarian chipmunks enjoying smokes, hoisting a couple of Massbiers, and singing a chorus or two of Blau Blüht Der Enzian.

Prost!

Next Tuesday is the death-aversary of the tragic suicide of Screaming Lord Sutch, England's least successful politician, and most forgotten rock 'n' roller. This year, I wanted to celebrate properly by shining a spotlight on the story of the his life and music with a couple of commemorative posts.

First up, a biography of the great man, written by me shortly after his death in 1999, for Cool and Strange Music magazine.

Happiness Is a Warm Butt Gun

This wrong-in-so-many-ways advertisement for the Dila-Therm prostate warmer is ripped right from the pages of the gripping October, 1949 issue of Detective World Magazine. As I recall, the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices in St. Paul, Minnesota used to have quite a collection of such devices, including the terrifyingly named, Recto Rotor.
