Thunberdirds Ikimashoo!

Thunberdirds [link] is an odd and mildly disturbing Japanese parody of Gerry Anderson's classic television puppet show, Thunderbirds. My Japanese is far too rusty to make any sense out of the dialogue, but I really don't think it matters. Lemme tell ya, I'll be seeing those fake lips in my nightmares tonight.

In addition to this clip, YouTube is a treasure trove of Supermarionation-related trivia and oddities. Check it out:

There's a lot more, but you can find it yourself.

Astro Zombie Vs. Sailor Martin

An ancient post of mine regarding The Amazing Criswell was Metafiltered this morning [link]. The poster, Astro Zombie (AKA Max Sparber), is an actor/playwright [link] who shares my enthusiasm for questionable vinyl endeavors [link], and is rumored to be the elusive Dr. Mysterian [link] (who really needs to update his 'blog, btw).

Like me, Max appears to be fascinated by ventriloquism, so much so that he even has his own dummy...an exceedingly creepy dummy with tattoos and multiple piercings who drinks too much. In this clip aptly entitled "Let's Get Drunk", Sailor Martin gives mixology lessons while rapidly sliding down the slippery slope towards complete blotto-dom [link].

And in other vent news, Mark F. over on bOINGbOING informs us that Maher Studios, the oldest purveyor of dummies around, is closing their doors after 72 years [link]. I just may have to pick up one of these exquisitely evil-looking Slappy dummies at a 25% discount [link].

A'wunnerful, A'wunnerful!

The mighty Lawrence Welk Orchestra knocks the old folks back on their rockers with the Velvet Underground's Sister Ray. [Link][via WFMU]
