Zounds! Sounds!

I'm feeling audio-oriented this a.m., so here's a few links for your listening enjoyment:

First up is mordi's marvelous mp3 'blog, blowupdoll, which serves up an exclusive smorgasbord of female pop from the likes of Marianne Faithfull, obscure French chanteuses, and my personal favorite, a (huge) video clip of Brigitte Bardot at her sexpottiest crooning Serge Gainsbourg's, Harley Davidson, whilst dressed in fetishy black leather and straddling the eponymous hog.

Next up on the jukebox is Radio Rumpus Room. Head straight over to their archives for a streaming heap of odd audio goodness in the form of theme shows covering hot rods to hell, atomic bombs, and a little Christmas music, of course. Requires Real Player, unfortunately. I recommend downloading Real Alternative instead.

Happy listening.

Sitarsploitation

The Sitar Groovers Guide: an excellent collection of .mp3 excerpts and album covers showcasing the role of the sitar in pop music.

"Sitar Groovers are a strange thing, there is no one scene or genre creating them, instead they pop up as the odd track on a Rock LP, Soundtrack, Lounge LP or anywhere really...At its best a sitar groover will have funky drums, Moogs, Hammond organs, bongos, tablas and above all a groove underpinning the beautiful sound of the sitar."

Make sure you listen to the peversely funny sitar version of "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy", and then read my earlier post on Lord Sitar.

Because I'm such a nice guy, I'll give credit to that Swedish dude at PCL LinkDump who posted this link faster than I did...;-)

Emerson, Lake, and Polivoks

Take a peek behind the Audio Iron Curtain at the Museum of Soviet Synths, where you can marvel at a veritable Peoples' Paradise of proletariat electronica like the Topaz, an accordian-like synth with a sound akin to that of a circus calliope sucking helium.
