Shock and Roll

I forgot that June 16th was the anniversary of Screaming Lord Sutch's tragic suicide. I find it a bit sad that people remember him nowadays as a politician, not as one of Britain's seminal rock and rollers. Sutch and the Savages had a huge impact on the musicians that went on to spearhead the British Invasion, but Sutch never really got a piece of that action. Instead, he spent much of the late Sixties driving around the US in a Rolls Royce with a Union Jack painted on top, and sold Carnaby Street fashions out of the trunk.

Here's a brief interview with Sutch, and a link to a tribute band that was apparently attempting to pick up where the Savages left off, although the site looks like it hasn't been updated for a couple of years.

Rest In Peace, yer Lordship.
