No Bloody Swearing!

roast.jpg

Greetings from Blighty! It's a miserable, grey, and rainy Monday...quite a contrast to yesterday, when I met up with The Cartoonist, Konstantin, and several thousand commie bicyclists at the Sherlock Holmes pub in sunny Westminster for a Sunday Roast podcast where we talked a load of rubbish about Russian billionaires, bad '70s science-fiction films, bluetongue disease, and British football.

Afterwards, Konstantin left for the Scottish Highlands, where he intends to stay in a small cottage for several weeks and eat fried sheep.

48, and Counting

Had a most pleasant birthday surrounded by my peeps. My boy came home from college for the weekend, and we all went out to a fine Mariscos restaurant this evening where I enjoyed a stiff margarita, lobster enchiladas with green chile sauce, and flan for dessert. I also received some very welcome news from my mom who let me know she's planning on making a rather substantial monthly contribution towards Son of Mr. Bali Hai's education, so we won't have to live on Kraft Dinners, Dinty Moore's Beef Stew, and VanCamp's Beanee-Weenees for the next 4 years.

I'm a lucky guy, and I'm very grateful for my family.

That is all.

The Nest Is Half-Full

We packed Son of Mr. Bali Hai off to college yesterday. He'll be renting a tiny room from a very spry 80-year old man for the next 2 years while he works on an Associates degree in Meteorology. After that, hopefully he'll transfer to a 4-year university to complete his Bachelors. Any misgivings that I had about his landlord were assuaged when I saw that he had a vintage tiki mug resting on the television set. I took that as a sign from the gods that all would be well.

Son and I spent several hours cleaning out his room this weekend in preparation for his departure, and we shared a lot of laughs and fond reminiscences over the various objects from his childhood that we found. He's not very far away, and I know that he'll be back home frequently, but damn, I miss him already.

Excuse me, I'm a little verklempt.
