Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you in 2005!
Starting today, I'm officially on vacation, so between now and Thursday expect light flurries of blogging, followed by a long period of drought until I return from LA on January 2nd.
Things are shaping up nicely for our visit. I've told you about our trip to San Diego and plans for Christmas previously. In the interim, I've also made plans to meet up with my longtime friend, J. K. Cohen, as well as blogging buddies Lili Chin and Eddie Mort of fwak!
We'll meet up with the latter at the world-famous Bahooka Restaurant where I hope to sample some exotic Polynesian treats like coleslaw and fried zucchini. If we're lucky, we'll get Go-Go as our waitress, a woman who's renowned for her ability to set any part of your meal aflame...entree, appetizers, salad, even your glass of water!
I'm also looking forward to meeting Lili and Eddie's friends, Lisa and Manfred who're coming up from Atlanta to visit LA. Lisa works for Cartoon Network, and Manfred is better known as "The Professor", frontman for the Woggles, an excellent band whose music I first became acquainted with back in my Cool and Strange Music days.
Finally, I'm taking the whole family (including my mom) to see God Bless Americana on New Years Day. This show has gotten raves from the press, but I first heard about it at fwak! Looks like a lot of fun.
That's all for now. I've got errands to run, so hang cool this holiday season. All the best from me and mine.
Due to a series of unfortunate corporate events that prudence dictates I not describe in detail here, I am not winging my way to Geneva, Switzerland today, as previously indicated on my map.
Suffice it to say that I am not happy about the way things turned out, but since there's nothing I can do to change it at this point, I've decided to focus my energies on planning our upcoming family vacation in Southern California.
I'm looking forward to visiting with relatives, as well as long-time, long-lost, and new friends in the area.
One of the trip's highlights will be having Christmas dinner on the Queen Mary at Sir Winston's Restaurant.
We're also planning to spend a couple of days in San Diego, where we'll stay at my favorite haunted hotel, the Del Coronado. I love the city, and I'm particularly looking forward to making a pilgrimage to the Bali Hai Restaurant where I'll pay my respects to my venerable predecessor and site mascot.
Visit this site for some fascinating historical info about San Diego, that includes lots of wonderful old photographs and postcards.
