London WorldCon 1957

b01.jpg

eFanzine is exhibiting a vastly entertaining collection of photographs from the 1957 London WorldCon science-fiction convention. Not only are there are a whole host of mid-century SF luminaries on hand, like Arthur C. Clarke, Brian Aldiss, Michael Moorcock, and Robert Silverberg, there's also a plethora of folks parading around in extremely silly spaceman costumes made out of aluminum foil, football helmets, and rabbit-ear TV antennas, along with what appears to be an early filk-singing session. Nice to see that, except for the quality of the costumes, things haven't changed much in the last 50 years.
