Calling All Boys Dressed As Girls

Yes, that's J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI and stalwart enemy of international communism by day, a glorious vision in high-heels and a chiffon frock by night. Isn't hindsight wonderful? Without it, this classic comic-book cover would merely be a nostalgic curiousity instead of an exercise in ironic wrongness.

While you're checking out the rest of that site, look at this illustration I found of The Cartoonist and Basil sharing an intimate moment. Awww!

Sockamagee!

The totally phaboolous Dial B for Blog is running a special feature called, Top 40 Sickest Comic Book Covers Ever! This week, you can viddy the covers of comic books that feature a grossly-obese version of the Flash, Super-Fatso-man busting a gut inside his iconic phonebooth, and a freakishly swollen Jimmy Olsen who looks like an out-of-control weather balloon.

I don't know if these covers really qualify as "sick", but they're certainly jaw-droppingly atrocious in that cheesy, Silver Age sort of way.

You can eyeball the previous installments of the Sickest Covers series here and here, but I don't think they're quite as much fun as this one. Your mileage may vary, naturally. Apparently 5 more installments are in the works, so if you like it, you can tune in again next Monday for another fix.

Thanks, and a tip o' the hat to the Bubblegumfink
