Working Vacation

There won't be much blogging 'round these here parts until next week. I'm busting my hump at work, trying to cover for a recently-departed cow-orker, then I'm taking a few days off to get ready for my mom's 80th birthday party, which we're hosting this weekend. I'm planning to throw a mini-luau for her, along with 12 of my aunts and uncles. Should be fun, but it'll be dry, since a number of my relatives are on the wagon.

Speaking of the wagon (falling off of it, to be precise), here's a bevy of fine 'bloggage related to demon alcohol that I recently became aware of thanks to The Art of Drink:

Jimmy's Cocktail Hour
Republic of Rum
The Spirit World

Enjoy in immoderation!

Havana Club Returns to the US

Havana_Club.jpg

After a long legal battle with the Cuban government, it looks as if Havana Club Rum is ready to re-launch here in the US with the backing of Bacardi. I'd probably be a lot more enthusiastic about this if Bacardi, that mediocritizer of rums, weren't involved with this, but I'm intrigued by Ramon Arechabala's (whose family owned the distillery before the Revolution) claim that the current Cuban version is "not drinkable". Now I consider HC to be pretty drinkable, so he better be ready to back that statement up with some damn fine liquor.

HC will be distributed only in Florida at first, but should roll out to addtional markets eventually.
