Tipping the Hat

If you want to read yet another of my whiny blogging rants, please click on the extended entry. Otherwise, move along, citizen.

One of my biggest peeves about blogging is discovering that someone has been strip-mining my site for linkage, then reposting it without giving me a referral. To some of you, this probably seems like a petty complaint, but I know that a lot of my fellow bloggers agree that it's very annoying. When you don't give a referral, you're denying most of us the only sense of recognition or reward that we receive from doing what we do.

It particularly bugs me when bigger blogs do this, because they didn't get to be where they are today without the help of a lot of traffic generated by referrals. If they're getting revenue from ad placements on their blog, I feel even more ripped off.

I should mention that I think this is usually done out of ignorance of blogging etiquette, not malicious intent. I'll even cop to the fact that I've done it myself on rare occasions, usually as a passive-aggressive way of telling another blogger they're a link-thievin' bastard.

The Cartoonist Talks to a Vibrator

My pal, the Cartoonist, has launched his very own podcast. In this first installment, he meets up at a pub with Knox, vocalist and guitarist for one of Britain's oldest punk bands, the Vibrators. I listened to these guys a lot back in the day, so it's great to hear that they're still around and still making music.

I'm looking forward to the next one (which I suspect has something to do with Wire).
