The thought of you watching Hee Haw gives me a mental image of Tupamaros guerillas standing in a coca field with pitchforks, singing Buck Owens' "I'm Waitin' In Your Welfare Line".
I think i caught some few minutes of Hee Haw here and there before we moved to Ecuador. Once satellite TV arrived there some 10 years later, about the only thing left in that vein of Ameredneckana was "Momma's Family".
Yeah I have some fond memories of those days when Hee Haw was a weekly bit of excitement...Pickin and Grinnin and Grand Pa Jones tellin what was for supper
In the same time zone we also had new Batman episodes to look forward to and my Fav show of the day Laugh In

I watched it during it's original run in 1969-1971, and it was a Saturday night staple in our home.
Your reaction to it as "Ameredneckana" was obviously shared by CBS, who cancelled it because the network execs thought the show was "too rural".
Whatever people's reaction to the cornfed humor was, most would admit that the music on the show was top-notch old-school country.
