How do you get around the three ounces rule? Checking a suitcase with fragile glass bottles doesn't seem like an alternative, even if you're willing to pay the airlines' extortionate $30 for the privilege.
If this were a contemporary product, you'd certainly have a valid point, Jonathan, but this photo dates back to the 1970s, when the War on Hair Gel was just a gleam in the eye of the future head of the TSA.
