My Dad, the A-rab
Here's another photo I ran across last night, while digging around. I've told some of you the story behind this photograph already, but for everyone else, let me explain:
My family and I lived in Kuwait for about 6 months back in 1967. Tensions between Egypt and Israel were very high, and as Americans, we were harassed by the locals who started throwing rocks through the windows of our apartment. In June, the 6-Day War broke out, and my father decided to send my mother and I back to the U.S. We had to camp out at the airport for several days before the U.S. government could arrange to fly us out.
My father remained in Kuwait for another 3 or 4 months to complete his assignment. When the time came for him to leave, he decided to dress up in a burnoose he'd bought for himself in Kuwait City. Being a full-blooded Italian, his swarthy complexion made it pretty easy for him to pass as a Kuwaiti, provided he didn't open his mouth. He kept up the masquerade all the way to L.A., where we met him at the heliport. My mom was overjoyed to see him again, but I think you can tell by the look on my face that I was completely mortified by his appearance. Today, of course, I'd probably do the same thing he did if I thought I could get away with it.
I wish I still had his burnoose.

Thanks for that tidbit, J$. Knowing my dad, he probably watched that show...:-)
I'm a big Danger Man fan myself, but I'd never heard of that episode until now. I'll have to see if I can find out more about it.
