Served from 1943-1946 as a Torpedoman's Mate 3rd Class on the destroyer escort vessel, U.S.S. Burke, in the Atlantic Theater of Operations, protecting U.S. Navy ships from German U-boat attack as they sailed from New York to Ireland and North Africa

Thanks. My aunt gave me all of his WWII memorabilia last year, including his diary. Before that, I hadn't known anything about his time in the service.

what took her so long to give you the moemorabilia? he's very good looking :) i remember his picture with you + your mom in front of that asian building. what happened to him? he was so young to pass away. i apologize if you don't want to talk about it.

I don't know why she didn't give me his stuff earlier. Maybe she forgot she had it.

He had diabetes and didn't take care of himself very well. He smoke, drank, and ate whatever he wanted, which brought on a lot of complications that eventually led to a heart attack. My mom and I were both angry with him for many years for leaving us like that, when he could have been around for a lot longer by simply following his doctor's advice.
