Easter-sploitation
Just in time for Easter, Media Funhouse explores a rather obscure genre of Seventies exploitation, the cheesy Christian "end-times" films of Donald W. Thompson.
As a former psychedelic Christian, I remember watching these films in churches. In particular, I have vivid recollections of A Thief In the Night, the first installment of Thompson's "Rapture" series, which deals with the sudden disappearance of millions of people and the subsequent enslavement of the remainder of humanity by the Antichrist.
Quite frankly, this flick and its utter downer of a theme song, I Wish We'd All Been Ready, by Larry Norman, scared the bejeezus out of me (pun intended). I spent every day for the next 6 months expecting to be "Left Behind".
Obviously, I got better.
