Cocktail of the (Jaguar) Gods

Jaguar_God.jpg

My long-awaited Moai decanter of Capel Pisco arrived today, along with a bottle of Bolivian herbal liqueur made from Coca leaves, called AGWA, so I wasted no time and whipped up this very tasty little green cocktail number called the Jaguar God, invented by Exotica blogger, Kono:

1 1/2 oz. Pisco
3/4 oz. AGWA
1/2 oz. Fresh-squeezed lime juice
1/2 oz. Passionfruit syrup (not nectar)

Shake and pour over crushed ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with fresh mint.

The AGWA when drunk straight up has a nose not unlike Hai Karate Aftershave, and it leaves a lingering taste of Listerine on the back of your tongue, but when used as a mixer, it offsets the bitter and slightly dry Pisco beautifully, and the coca leaf leaves you with an alert buzz, which counteracts the usually depressive effects of the alcohol in the cocktail. Did I mention that it's also a beautiful shade of pale green?

I'm afraid to have more than one though. I might turn into an Eighties stockbroker or something.

Mahalo, Kono!

Sweeet jayzuss you drank that stuff? You know now you will never have to prove your courage in any other way .

Hopefully you will be alive in the morning though...

Somebody call a Doctor

Bah. It's nothing compared to the time I drank Tick Tack, the national liquor of El Salvador. Now that's some nasty stuff.

Prost!

Yes I suppose its not that lethal must have been my old memories of mixing
Icelandic Go Go juice and Absinthe

Ah, Brennivin. I saw Tony Bourdain take a shot of that after eating rotted shark on the Iceland episode of No Reservations.

I like Akvavit, so I don't think Brennivin would be much different, but Absinthe, that stuff ruins just about anything it touches.

Namely the roof of your mouth. Its great though if you want to taste licorice in your mouth for an entire week

Brennivin is very tasty. At least, the brennevin i had at dr_memory's place.

This cocktail sounds quite intriguing, except for the passionfruit syrup. I hate maracuyá.

I hate maracuyá.

You, always with the hate.

Actually, the taste of the Pisco and AGWA completely overwhelmed the passionfruit, so I think you could substitute a different fruit syrup with no problem.

i fer real have hai karate and listerine in my medicine cadinet, maybe i should take a shot of each to approximate this drink.

Throw in a couple of lines of coke, and you're all set.

Where did you get the Pisco moai from? My friends got me one from Easter Island and I have a lot of people asking me if they can get it anywhere else. Thanks, Vanessa

Vanessa: I ordered it online from Internet Wine and Spirits.
