BaliWant: Capel Pisco Reservado Moai Decanter

Populuxe's friends went to Easter Island and brought her back an ultra-fabulous Moai decanter filled with Chilean Pisco Capel liquor. Pisco is a brandy made from fermented muscatel grapes, and is used to make Pisco Sours which, according to declassified CIA documents, were Augusto Pinochet's favorite drink. Apparently, Pisco is pretty harsh stuff, but I figure that since I like both Grappa and Cachaça, how bad can it be?

In any case, the decanter is cool enough to obviate any concerns regarding its taste, so I've decided that I must possess my own bottle, and will henceforth dedicate my life to obtaining it...right after I send both my kids through college, of course.

A friend of mine picked up a bottle for me at a gourmet specialty shop here in Grand Rapids, MI. Give them a shout: http://www.marthasvineyardgr.com/

Thanks for the tip. Looks like it's available from a couple of other online vendors as well.

I like the bottle but i'd rather have it filled with six year old Calvados

Which reminds me, whatever happened to your Calvados blog?

Morte too far from the source not enough bottles.

These days I blog about my recent metalwork

Thanks for checking out our blog. Our friends had a blast in Easter Island. We would love to go and see the giant moai someday. You should try ebay for the Pisco moai bottle. You never know!

I have actually had some really great pisco that some Peruvians brought back from Peru. It was one of the most delicious brandies I had ever had the pleasure of drinking, sweet, smooth and a delight to drink. Much like cachaca, you have to really look hard to get a good one (I have yet to find an awesome pisco for sale in the USA). As far as bottles go, the fancier the bottle, the less likely I am to drink it.

Populuxe: no worries. I'm pretty sure I've linked to your blog once before.

Dave: I'm guessing that Peruvian Pisco is significantly different than Chilean, and I totally agree that the quality of liquor is typically inversely proportional to the coolness of its container. Nevertheless, I must own it!

they sold that pisco everywhere in montgomery county, md where i used to live. not here in baltimore. i think there must be a substantial peruvian population in the d.c. area. regardless, i thought it tasted okay ~ if i make it down that way anytime soon i'll buy you a bottle, bali hai.

i mean chilean. hell, there's guys from all over that continent.

Well "Pisco" is made in both Chile and Peru but Peru got the approval to be the only country to have the right to import Pisco to the USA as "Pisco", I expect that if you can find a brandy from Chile it should be just as good. Humm brand I had tried was Santiago Queirolo that was here for a short time in the USA but not as good as the stuff that I got from the Peruvians. Their website is here and it says they are starting to bring it into NJ! http://www.santiagoqueirolo.com - hopefuly the good stuff.

J$: Thank you kindly. I'll keep looking for it on the web as well.

Dave: I won't hold my breath for any of that to show up in my area. The liquor selection around these here parts (Western Wisconsin) is pretty pathetic.

This stuff isn't that hard to find — we have a bottle and have come across other empties at thrift stores all over the place (even in Korea). Do you want the booze, or just the bottle? We're in Houston, home of the world's largest liquor store — I can look if you want... (email me).

Thanks, but don't sweat it, Brittanie. I'm in no gigantic hurry to find a bottle.
