Panties Over Montalvo

jones.jpg

The very first article I wrote for Cool and Strange Music Magazine was a biography of Tom Jones. I based most of it on this concert review I wrote for the edification of a former friend of mine who accompanied me on a trip to the Montalvo Winery [Link] to see His Tomness in person. This was probably the greatest show I've ever attended. It was truly sublime. If you think Tom Jones is some sort of lounge-lizard parody, all I can tell you is that you are missing out on one amazing singer and entertainer.

I have a big soft spot for Tom Jones; and it's got nothing to do with my childhood, unless you count the fact that I first saw "What's New Pussycat?" when I was likely far too young to be watching such a thing. Same goes for "The Magic Christian", from which I got the most horrendous limerick.

I'll have to watch Magic Christian again and listen for that limerick. The only thing I remember about that film was Yul Brynner in drag singing "Mad About the Boy" to Roman Polanski.
