London 2006: Tiki

L-R: Me, Plep, Tiki Chris

I met up with The Cartoonist, Plep, and Tiki Chris at the Mahiki in Mayfair on Friday evening last weekend, and whiled away several pleasant hours chatting, eating puu-puus, and sampling the Mahiki's excellent (and pricey) cocktails. Quite a few of the drinks on the menu were unavailable that night, but we were able to try out the Mahiki Mai Tai, Zombie, and everyone's favorite, the Coconut Grenade, served in a real coconut perched atop a Trader Vic's skull mug. Here's a smallish, scan of the Mahiki's nicely illustrated drink menu [Link]

Here's what we looked like after drinking all of that. I'd show you the picture of us receiving the bill, but who wants to see 4 grown men weeping uncontrollably? Not me.

Speaking of gigantic bills, I went to the London Trader Vic's the following evening for a nosh and a cocktail before heading over the West End to see Spamalot. A Cosmo Tidbits platter, fried rice with duck, a Mai Tai, and a Navy Grog set me back 47 quid ($92!)

Check out Ace Jackalope's photo essay of the London Vic's [Link], and let your mind be boggled at the horrendous prices they're charging for mugs! London has never been what I would consider a travel bargain, especially Mayfair, but these days it's getting downright ridiculous! Looks like I'll be back again next year, and just in time for the "London Luau 2007", but I may have to take out a 3rd mortgage to afford it.
