Prestige-idigitation
I went to see Christopher Nolan's new film, The Prestige, last night, and I came away mightily impressed. It's not often I see a film that truly deserves to be number 1 at the box office, but this one does. It had a solid, dark, and creepy plot that kept me guessing right up until the very end, sterling performances from Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, with a nifty sci-fi twist featuring my favorite historical personage, Nikola Tesla (played subtly by David Bowie). I also loved the downbeat ending. I would see this film again in a heartbeat.
I only had one tiny beef: if you're going to employ Tesla in a key role, you might want to read up a bit on his personal habits and quirks. In the scene where Jackman's character meets the famous inventor for the first time, Tesla reaches out to shake his hand. In real life, Tesla was extremely phobic of human contact, and never, ever, would've done such a thing.
5 stars (out of 5). Victorian Magic Quantum Physics Kung-fu. Mr. Bali Hai sez: Check it out!

I'm embarrassed to say I began reading the novel but got bored and put it down rather quickly. Looking forward to seeing this but my girlfriend is resisting. Perhaps it is the bland taste left in our mouths after "The Illusionist." Maybe she'll take your word for it.

Mrs. Bali Hai loved it, if that helps. There are a couple of very strong female roles. Scarlett Johanssen pulls off a very credible english accent.
My daughter liked it too, although she was a bit confused by the plot twists (she's 12, so can be forgiven for letting her attention stray).
