In Knitwear Heaven, Everything Is Fine

Ok, my ears are unplugged, my sinuses are draining, and I can sit upright now without feeling nauseous. Thanks to jaime and czelt who thoughtfully stopped by to wish me a speedy recovery. This post's for youse guys. As for the rest of you miscreants, well you can just forget about getting invited to the grand opening of my basement tiki bar. Nyah!
Mary, the hostess of my favorite weird fashion blog, Threadbared, has posted some images, accompanied by witty post-postmodernist commentary, from this odd and mildly disturbing catalog of infant knitwear that she claims was art directed by none other than everyones' favorite Boy Scout auteur, David Lynch. After viewing Eraserheadish images like this, I find that claim within the realm of possibility, at least.

That's just creepy. I'm going to have nightmares now.
Glad to hear you're feeling better.

yikes. wonder how well it did as a sales tool? wonder if his employers at the time thought it was genius or fired his ass on the spot? perhaps low romper sales felicitated his move to film. one does get the feeling lynch had more of a comfortable report with the mannequids than the real kids.

I think the first question to ask is, was Lynch really involved with this? I see no explicit evidence to suggest that he was, so if it's just the product of an ordinary art director, would that change our opinion of it? Sure, it would still be odd, but would it change from art into crap?

hey not so fast! so far is i'm concerned it's a frikkin catalog no matter who designed it. it's a tool of our capitalist swine slavers used to crush the honest working man who seeks only to humbly cloth his offspring! we must not waiver! we must strike at the heart of.... oops, wrong meeting. sorry.
are we really at that point though?
catalog design is now a recognized art-form?
"yes, it is."
dang it.

Damn pinko!

Ah, the old 'Craft' Vs. 'Art' controversy. I'm not touchin' that one with a 10-foot Jackson Pollack.
