Spoon!!!
The Disney Channel (whose usual programming I regard as utterly excremental) has one redeeming feature, they've been rerunning episodes of The Tick (the animated version, not the mostly awful live-action one). My kids and I have been watching it every night for the past couple of weeks. I'd forgotten what a great cartoon it was, and I'm also discovering how many episodes I'd missed during its original run. Disney's presentation, however, is unforgiveably annoying; they aren't showing the episodes in order, and their endless commercial breaks featuring nothing but self-referential promos, and Captain Crunch commercials really grate on my nerves. I blame Eisner. I'd love to buy or rent all 3 seasons on DVD, but for some inexplicable reason, only a couple of episodes are available on VHS.
Anyway, the Tick's creator, Ben Edlund (now working on The Venture Bros), really did a phenomenal job translating his brilliant comic book to the small screen. The surreal villains, the loopy heroes, the inane dialogue, inspired voice talent, the SONGS!!!...I could go on and on, but you should just visit (or re-visit) the mighty Ticklopedia where you can get the lowdown on every episode, learn how to make a Tick head out of Legos, and even mix yourself a Tick cocktail.
" You know, evil comes in many forms, be it a man eating cow or Joseph Stalin." - The Tick
How true that is.

If you ever hear that they are bringing the animated Tick to DVD you MUST let me know.

I wonder who owns the rights to the series now? Maybe we should start a letter-writing campaign?
