Back With the Schwag

Aloha. I have returned from not-so-sunny California where, despite the pouring rain, gale-force winds, and a relatively wimpy tornado or two, we had an absolutely tiki-riffic time.

Highlights of the trip included Christmas dinner on the Queen Mary, dining at the fabulous Bali Hai Restaurant, sipping Bahooka Bowls with those lovable kids from Los Feliz, Eddie and Lili, browsing through Oceanic Arts, and scoring a couple of fantastic faux-polynesian tschotkes at a nearby antique mall, along with some very cool Mexican folk art on Olvera Street.

Photos (such as they are) can be seen here. I hope to resume regular blogging soon, work permitting.

Hey ma, look...I'm lovable!
Glad you made it back safely...Eddie

You're both adorable...[pinches Eddie's cheek]...if only I could feed you carrots in a giant fish tank!

Welcome back!

Was that Jonathan Livingston Seagull?

Sorry, couldn't resist. Sorry, for the debilitating 70s flashbacks it may incur. I wonder if Neil Diamond still does his JLS 'songs' in concert...

I guess we're having the same flashbacks, because that's the first thing I thought of when my son snapped that picture.

Welcome back! Enjoyed looking at your vacation pics.

Thanks, I'm glad to back back here in Wisconsin where it's warm!

Mr Bali Hai meets MrBaliHai. Where are YOUR earrings????
And ... Welcome back to the shitty blogosphere.

Where are YOUR earrings????

No earrings, but I have a bone through my nose that I only wear for special religious ceremonies involving consensual cannibalism.

Yeah, the blogosphere *does* seem kind of shitty right now, doesn't it? I feel like there's nothing left for me to discover that 10,000,000 other bloggers haven't already found.

i know. But the point is not to find new links. The point is to have all the COOL links which you have. You know, it's not some kind of contest. It's an artform. And that would make you Ed "Big Daddy" Roth with a touch of Henri Magritte (and Sundays tuesdays you're moody and explosive like Van Gogh...).
;-)

sundays go away!

Henri Magritte should have been Rene Magritte. But I mixed him up with Henri Matisse.

I am full of errors today...

I am full of errors today...

That's okay. It makes life more interesting.

Hmm, I like the idea of Henri Magritte. Maybe I'll do some photoshop collaging tonight...;-)

No mention! The slight of it all!

I swear, next year I'll have a couple of XBoxen and copies of Halo 2 -- no, make that Halo 3 -- for each of them. The four of us can go to dinner secure in the knowledge that the kids are all right. It'll be as jolly as it can be! Honest!

1,000 apologies! No slight was intended, I assure you. Our dinner at Thai Orchid was delightful, as was your company. My only regret was not ordering another Crazy Monkey.

As for the kids, I suggest that we duct tape them to chairs next time and force them to watch videos of The Jewish Hour intercut with Six Million Dollar Man episodes.

Welcome back!
You were missed around our cyber-neighborhood!
Very nice pictures!
I heard about that tornado, and didn't believe it at first....

Thanks, Michelle. It's nice to know that I was missed!

Yeah, we had a good laugh over that tornado; it was classified as an F0, which is the weakest level with winds reaching 75mph. It barely managed to knock over a retaining wall and dented a couple of cars, but everyone in LA was completely freaking out over it. We live right off of Tornado Alley here in the Midwest where the twisters routinely reach windspeeds of 150mph and destroy entire towns, so the hysteria seemed pretty silly to us.
