Yé-yé Girls

Comments

Ah, Chantel Goya. Loved her in Godard's Masculin-Feminin: one of his best.

As my ye-ye collection is fairly limited, and my knowledge of Godard's filmography is even moreso, I'm sadly unfamiliar with her work.

You know, i'd heard the phrase "Las Chicas Ye-yé" when i was a kid, but i had no idea what it referred to. Freaky.

I'd be really interested to know if there was a ye-ye scene in South America. The only 60's music scene that I'm aware of down there is Tropicalia from Brazil.

I looked for Spanish ye-ye during my last trip to Madrid and Barcelona, but the store clerks just laughed at me.

Mr BaliHai, you really should remedy that and rent Masculine-Feminine. One of the master's more accessible films. There's a recording session with Chantal in it. Another recording session, this one with the Rolling Stones, makes up about half the movie in One Plus One (aka Sympathy for the Devil).

I'll check it out, Jim. I've only seen "Alphaville", which I liked a lot (being a noir and scientifiction geek).

Ah, Alphaville: Anna Karina, Eddie Constantine, and Akim Tamiroff. I especially liked Lemmy Caution's mode of transport for crossing space: a Ford Galaxy. Let me know what you think. MF and Alphaville were made within a year of one another, but are quite different. And then, there's always Weekend with the delicious Mireille Darc. Hot damn!
