All Mod-Pop-Punk Cons
The Mod Pop Punk Archives: a most excellent collection of bios, covers, discographies, and links that showcases bands from 1977 through 1985, including a couple of somewhat obscure LA ensembles that I fondly recall from my days punking around in Hollywood.
Speaking of ancient musical history, read this interesting article by Robert Hilburn about of two of Kim Fowley's acts: The Quick, a Sparks-like band that should've been big but never made it, and the Runaways, a band that should've been much bigger, but was sabotaged by Fowley's inept management.

Once upon a time around 1980, I had a compilation album with The Quick (or maybe it was someone similar) and a bunch of other obscure punk/wave bands. I can't remember the title... it was a very generic quickie exploitation number on a small label, but not a cool small label, if you know what I mean (like a Casablanca tax write-off division or somesuch). Bands ranging from The Alleycats to Suburban Lawns to The dBs. Disappeared from my collection long ago.

I still have the Quick's first (and only) LP, although I haven't played it in at least 15 years. They were a very good little band, and it's a shame that they got stuck with Fowley as their manager, since he was always more interested in promoting himself than his acts.
X-8 and I were big fans of the Quick; we saw a number of their shows at the Whisky. My favorite was the time they opened for Van Halen. They played their hearts out and got nothing from the audience but jeers, so when Van Halen came out, we wrote "Boredom" on our foreheads with felt pens...that got the Diamond Dave fans really riled up!
