TMDTV: Too Much Definition Television

I develop and deliver training on digital-media products, among them, hardware and software used in high-definition television (HDTV) post-production. Like every new technology, HDTV comes with a unique set of problems that include its ability to reveal glaring skin flaws (and the makeup tricks that studios use to conceal them) with remarkable clarity. As HDTV starts to pick up steam in the consumer marketplace, these issues must be addressed, otherwise the average viewer may find themselves totally repulsed by the sight of gigantic wrinkles, acne scars, and gooey boogers dangling precariously from the noses of their favorite celebs.

However, the industry that may suffer the most is porn which, according to this Slate article, is starting to make inroads into this new market. I don't know about you, but I'm definitely not ready to see plastic surgery scars and pubic razor burns in extreme closeup.

Perhaps we'll see a return to the slightly more naturalistic portrayals of the 1970s when pornstars didn't always look like overinflated pod people. One can only hope.

Perhaps the digital porn producers could apply a slight blur filter, a la Photoshop, to achieve the old 1970s Bob Guccione vaseline-on-the-lens effect.
