Arcane Arcade Artifacts
[yawn] It's Monday morning...pre-class...so I've got some time to kill blogging. All in all, I had a pretty interesting weekend. One of the highlights was visiting Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum, a fantastic collection of coin-operated oddities that spans the last century, all jammed together floor to ceiling into a tiny storefront in a Farmington Hills strip mall about 2 miles from my hotel.
Pharmacist Marvin Yagoda's unique collection includes arcade mechanisms, turn-of-the-last-century magic posters, cheesecake pictures that would've given grandad a stiffie, lots of old fortune-telling machines, and even a replica of the infamous Cardiff Giant. I spent quite a few quarters operating miniature chamber of horrors mechanisms like The Spanish Inquisition, the Guillotine, and a gruesome miniature electric chair. Fun for the whole family!
In other arcade-related news, I've decided that the Simpson's Pinball Party will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine!
