Two Zombies Later

Back when I was writing for Cool and Strange Music, I was a regular on Lazlo Nibble's Exotica mailing list. It was a good place to learn about lounge and novelty records. I also got to converse with cool artists, record collectors, and musicians like R. Moritz, Alan Zwieg, and Skip Heller. I unsubscribed when a couple of incontinent idiots started verbally crapping on the list and spammers began harvesting e-mail addresses from it, but I re-subbed a couple of weeks ago and have been lurking in the shadows sussing out the current mood and direction of the list.

Much to my pleasant surprise, Otis F. Odder, of the wonderful 365 Days project, just announced the online release of a free Exotica comp featuring the music, words, and artwork of various list members. It's called Two Zombies Later and you can download the MP3s and CD inserts from Comfort Stand Records for a limited time.

Did I mention that it's FREE?

The Exotica List certainly has rebounded from the horrors of a year (or two?) ago, but it's still not perfect. There's still a lot of noise and I find myself skimming through most messages. A few very vocal members treat it like their own personal chat room instead of a public discussion forum.

I agree that that compilation looks way cool. What a surprising gift to the world!

Thanks for stopping by, Matt.

Things seem quieter on the list now, mostly because a certain in-duh-vidual appears to have stopped responding to every single frickin' message. I find it encouraging that Alan is posting again.

I seem to recall that at one point, M. Ace over at Ookworld was canvassing people with the intention of starting a new list for the folks who were tired of the unmoderated crap, but I don't know what ever became of that. Care to comment, M?

The list you're talking about is Sound Scavengers moderated by M. Ace. You can sign up here. More interesting topics and less chaotic than Exotica. You'll like it.
